    Clients can leverage the Eclipse Data Collector Appliance to provide:

    • Quickly collect critical information agent-lessly all supported devices

    Support for critical infrastructure best practices for IT asset management, configuration management, software license audits and other compliance audits and related optimizations to the IT infrastructure.

    In addition to end user reports, raw data collected by the tool will be made accessible to Dell consulting resources. The raw data will be available either in a database form. Data points to be collected are in the sections that follow.

    Application

    The Data Collector Appliance will provide Dell with a capability to map applications running on the specific servers, and the data dependencies between these applications.

    The Data Collector Appliance will collect storage configuration information. This tool will collect the following data without the requirement of host agents:

    • MAC addresses
    • Number of controllers
    • Controller models
    • Controller software/firmware revision
    • Disk inventory
        o Manufacturer

        o Disk firmware

    • Configured luns/volumes

        o Size
        o Server mapping
    • Drive shelves
        o Model
        o Number of slots
        o Number of drives
    • RAID group configuration
    • Thin provisioning data

    Network Data Collection

    The Data Collector Appliance will collect network information and is capable of traversing the network. In addition, the following data will be collected:

    • Configuration (Routers and Switches)

        o Current configuration details
        o Port count
        o Port type
        o Port speed
        o MAC address of device connected to each interface
        o VLAN Configuration
        o IP address structure
        o L3-routing

    Reporting

    While priority is being placed on data gathering, reporting capabilities are also an important consideration. The Data Collector Appliance can generate reports that are applicable to workload profiling and IT design.
